These Simple Steamed Carrots with Maple and Dill are my go-to late-night snack! Slightly sweet, salty, and with just a little bit of crunch, it checks all the snack boxes. Plus, this carrot recipe is so versatile and quick that it is a perfect side for many other dishes.

Back when I was still waiting tables, I made friends with this badass manager at our restaurant. She was fun and loved food, and we always had a great time. One night after one (or two) too many glasses of wine, she whipped up these delicious carrots for us to snack on.

Since then, I’ve been hooked! Making a big bowl of these simple steamed carrots with maple and dill always hits the spot!

Ingredients

These simple ingredients are all you need for delicious steamed carrots with maple and dill!

  • Carrots – Carrots are some of my favorite ingredients. They store forever and are so fun and easy to grow! I picked a bunch of Yaya carrots we planted this spring for this recipe.

  • Maple Syrup – My friend originally made these for me with honey, but I’ve been substituting maple syrup or agave to make it vegan.

  • Dill – Dried and fresh dill both work great for this recipe, but the measurements are for dried. If you use fresh, just add a bit more since it’s not as potent as dry.

  • Black Pepper – Key ingredient! Lots of fresh ground black pepper. So good!

  • Kosher Salt –  If you use fine salt, reduce the amount, or it could wind up too salty.

How to make Simple Steamed Carrots with Maple and Dill

This recipe is so quick and easy! I like to use this little folding steamer for most steamed veggies, and it folds up and takes up so little space. It’s amazing!

In the first step, add about an inch of water to a saucepan and set over high heat.

While the water is heating up, prepare the carrots. Peel and slice the carrots on a bias, so you have about 1/4 inch thick semi-uniform carrot pieces.

Add the carrots to the steamer basket and place them into the pot.
Steam until they are tender but still crisp – about 8 to 10 minutes.

Overcooking will leave you with mushy carrots – not nice.

Carefully transfer the steamed carrots to a bowl. Season with salt, pepper, dill, and a drizzle of maple syrup.

Serving Suggestions

Just about any dish can be fancied up with the additon of these great carrots. The mild sweetness makes them a great side to dishes like Vegan Barbeque Soy Curl Mac, Oven Fried Tofu Nuggets, or Easy Vegan Cajun Red Beans.
