Add 1 to 2 inches of water to a saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat.
Peel the carrots and slice them into ¼-inch slices on the bias to make wide flat carrot ovals. Place the carrots into the steamer basket.
Once the water has come to a boil, place the steamer basket into the pot. Cover it with a lid and steam for 8 to 10 minutes. Check with a fork at about 8 minutes. The carrots should be tender but still have a snap to them.
Once the carrots are perfect, carefully remove them from the steamer basket and place them in a serving bowl. Drizzle with maple syrup, salt, dill, and black pepper. Eat immediately!
